Before
uploading, you'll need:
-
A valid LIFT membership or crew list subscription.
A plain-text version of your resume. (Please note: You are strongly advised not to indulge in the excessive use of All-Caps (i.e. WRITING YOUR ENTIRE RESUME IN CAPITALS), rather than providing emphasis to your resume, excessive use makes your resume difficult to read. Reserve your use of capitals for headings and such.
For example:
TEXT SET IN ALL CAPS IS DIFFICULT TO READ AS THE CHARACTERS SHARE THE SAME HEIGHT AND BLOCKISH CHARACTER, THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR THE EYE TO PERCEIVE DIFFENCES IN THE CHARACTERS, A KEY TO LEGIBLITY. COMPARE THIS COPY SET IN ALL CAPS WITH THE PARAGRAPH BELOW.
Text set in lower case, with the correct use of capitols is more legible, as the characters differing height, and varying ascending and descending strokes make it easy for the eye to perceive differences in the characters, a key to legibility. Compare this copy set in lower case with the copy set in all-caps above.
When you cut-and-paste your CV from your word processing program into the online form, tabs and formatting such as italics and tabs are not-retained. This can result in formatting errors in your page on the LIFT website. The best way to format your CV for the website, is to change tabbed text into text with line-breaks.
For example, this cut and paste text with tabs:
September, 2004 Adventures in Typography D.O.P/ Camera Op. Super 16mm, Nickel & Dime Entertainment
Would be displayed like this on the website because all the tabs would be collapsed:
September, 2004 Adventures in Typography
D.O.P/ Camera Op. Super 16mm, Nickel & Dime Entertainment
By inserting line-breaks in place of tabs, the information appears in a neatly formatted stack:
September, 2004 Adventures in Typography D.O.P/ Camera Op. Super 16mm, Nickel & Dime Entertainment
The best way to make revisions to your online listing, is to copy your existing listing from the website into a plain-text editor, even your email client will work for this task, and make any necessary changes or additions, and then copy this back into the online form.
If you plan on uploading a headshot or other image to accompany your resumé, you'll need to convert your image to jpeg or gif format. Make sure that your image is no larger than 400 pixels wide and 600 pixels in height. Larger images will not display properly.
