From production prep, to shoot, to post, and final receipt of all outstanding financing balances, careful forecasting and management of production finances are essential to the smooth and successful delivery of a production. In this intense workshop we will investigate the composition of production financing including Federal and Provincial tax credits, demystify production budgets templates like Telefilm's, learn the difference between a production budget and a production financial statement, look at the relationship between the budget and the production schedule, and the difference between a locked and unlocked budget. We will also explore what it takes to: create realistic budgets and cashflows-research and construct a financing scenario-track and control production budget expenditures. In addition to learning the essential skills to keep your own books, we will delve into the relationship between fiscal responsibility, reporting obligations including GST, delivery specifications, and the affect it all has on incoming production funds. Plus, we will examine the difference between Financing and Interim Financing, their affect on production cashflows, and why timely collection and completion of production records and accurate bookkeeping are essential to the delivery of a production 'on budget', and finally how it all impacts on the production's ability to collect on promised financing and pay its bills.
