Schedule:
Sunday, April 25th, 10am - 6pm
+ 4 hours of work time

Cost:
Members $65

Enrollment is limited to 6

The motor's quieter, but the "bang for your buck" is louder than ever. Take a tour of LIFT's recently fine-tuned small gauge optical printer and learn a variety of tricks to create stunning animated effects on 16mm. Participants will learn the basics of optical printing with the JK including enlarging Regular 8mm and Super 8mm to 16mm, step and skip printing, superimposition and bipacking, and creating monochrome prints with colour filters and black and white film. Hands-on exercises will allow participants to shoot their own tests and learn effective record-keeping techniques for future projects.

The Camera Theory workshop is strongly recommended as a prerequisite.

Work time credit must be used before Friday, April 30th, 2010. Non-members must book their editing time during LIFT office hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm).

Instructor:
Alexi Manis is an independent filmmaker who works in the tradition of celluloid, splicers and spit. Her short 16mm experimental films have screened at festivals and events worldwide. They consist of found footage, home movies, projected and rephotographed imagery, optically printed fiascos and the sketches, paintings and music of artist friends. She is currently collaborating with Toronto poet Thom Olsen on a series of short super 8mm's inspired by his translation of Shakespeare's sonnets in local parks. Shutter, her forthcoming film, tracks the darkening day of a total solar eclipse.
