INTRODUCTION TO DIRECTING MUSIC VIDEOS
From concept to execution, from guerrilla to high-end

This workshop deals with the entire process of directing music videos. Topics covered include: conceptualizing and writing for music videos, casting, pre-production, production and post-production. Participants will learn how to brainstorm ideas, find the right fit for the song, and explore techniques for visualization/execution. Students will learn the importance of knowing all technical aspects of filmmaking for precise communication, and get a crash course in the director's attitude and leadership of one's crew on set. Special focus will be given to the topic of shooting music videos guerrilla style, with only a limited or shoestring budget. Filmmakers are encouraged to discuss their current projects and works-in-progress in this forum, or bring songs they plan to or would like to create music videos for.


Instructor:
Alison Duke is an award-winning filmmaker with over ten years experience producing films for broadcast television, community-based organizations, corporations and small businesses. She has worked as a segment producer/director for several internationally syndicated documentary television series, and has written, produced and directed films shown in film festivals. Ms. Duke brings a variety of different skills to each production including producing, directing, camera operation and editing. She currently is the founder and CEO of Goldelox Productions Inc, an independent production company whose mission is to produce social issues documentaries, dramas and media products for private and public companies as well as other filmmakers.

She has directed music videos for such artists as Nelly Furtado, Motion, Gavin Hope and Citizen Kane, amongst others. Her latest music video, The Batty Boys Revenge by Troy Jackson, premiered at the AGO and the 2010 Insideout Toronto LGBT Film and Video Festival. www.alisonduke.com
